Wabi and Sabi" black

Wabi-sabi are Japanese senses of beauty, which mean “Beauty within simplicity.”

Origin of Black Vessels

It is said that black tableware was first used in Japan long ago during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, when the culture of "chanoyu" (tea ceremony) was developed, and Sen no Rikyu, with his unique aesthetic sense, had craftsmen create black tea bowls.

It is said that Sen no Rikyu dared to use black for the colorful pottery of the time because he wanted to "overturn the common sense of the world and the worn-out sense of values.

Wabi and Sabi" loved by Rikyu

The beauty that black radiates is in keeping with the spirit of wabi-sabi (wabi and sabi). Wabi" means to feel contentment in the absence of anything else. Sabi" means to feel a sense of taste in the midst of quietness. Black is cool today, but if you go back far enough, you will find the wabi-sabi aesthetic loved by Sen no Rikyu.

The black cutlery gives a tighter impression and the red color of the strawberries looks more vivid. As you can see, black also has the effect of adding a touch of color.
